Castello di Radda Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG

Castello di Radda Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG is a wine with classic Tuscan character, where Sangiovese's fresh acidity and red berry fruit meet the depth and spiciness gained from longer maturation.

The freshly harvested grape clusters are destemmed and crushed before fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks with a capacity of 50 hl. This is followed by maceration on the skins, which can last three to four weeks. Then comes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Once this stage is complete, ageing begins in second- and third-year French oak barrels and 20 hl Slavonian oak casks, lasting about 20 months. After bottling, the wine ages for at least nine months in the bottle, after which the product is ready for sale.

The aroma reveals ripe sour cherry, wild strawberry and red plum, joined by light floral nuances, dried herbs, tobacco, leather and sweet spices. On the palate the wine is dry and well structured: Sangiovese's acidity carries the vitality, while the ripe tannins create a long and elegant finish. This is a classic, terroir-focused Chianti Classico rather than a very concentrated or modern-style Tuscan wine.

Castello di Radda is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Radda in Chianti area, one of Chianti Classico's historic and higher-altitude growing zones. The estate's history dates back to the 15th century, when the property belonged to a Florentine noble family. Today the estate focuses on Chianti Classico wines, and its vineyards lie at approximately 450–500 metres above sea level. Altitude matters here: cooler nights help Sangiovese retain acidity and aromatics, while the Tuscan sun gives the grapes ripeness. Also important for Castello di Radda's wines is the limestone soil, which brings structure and minerality to the wines.

On Chianti Classico wines you will often see the Gallo Nero, or black rooster. It is the historic symbol of the Chianti Classico Consorzio and a very good visual marker for distinguishing a bottle of Chianti Classico from ordinary Chianti.
