Borsari Valpolicella Ripasso DOC

1575 €

Borsari Valpolicella Ripasso DOC is one of the most highly regarded wine styles of the Valpolicella region – in character it sits between the freshness of classic Valpolicella and the power of Amarone. In its production, a young Valpolicella undergoes a second fermentation, the ripasso process, in which the wine comes into contact with the grape skins left over from making Amarone or Recioto. This gives the wine more body, colour, alcohol and depth.

The aroma opens richly: ripe cherries, black berries, plum, spices and a light chocolate nuance. On the palate there is a fine balance between juicy fruit, soft tannins and pleasant spiciness. The finish is long and elegant, with darker berries and slightly balsamic notes coming to the fore.

Borsari operates in the Veneto wine region, where Valpolicella is one of Italy's best-known red wine areas. The hilly slopes and limestone-rich soils around Verona create an environment where the local varieties Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella can express their typical cherry-driven, spicy character. Valpolicella Ripasso has become especially popular because it offers part of Amarone's character without Amarone's price level and very powerful structure. It is a wine for those who love Amarone's depth but are looking for something a little more accessible, with fresher acidity and more versatility.
